Position Title: Settlements Analyst I, II or III

Department/Location: Financial Services; Bismarck, ND

Position Purpose: Settlements Analyst I: This position is within the Financial Services Department located in Bismarck ND. The Settlements Analyst I plays an important role in ensuring Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) and Dakota Gasification Company (DGC) is receiving optimal value for its resources. This position is responsible for the confirmation, reconciliation, and settlement of certain energy transactions related to natural gas agreements, renewable agreements, and wholesale power transactions for BEPC and DGC. This position requires a detailed oriented person that can problem solve energy discrepancies and work collaboratively with internal departments including providing feedback and support to the marketing, risk management and accounting areas. Settlements Analyst II: This position is within the Financial Services Department located in Bismarck ND. This position plays an important role in ensuring Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) and Dakota Gasification Company (DGC) is receiving optimal value for its resources. This position is responsible for the confirmation, reconciliation and settlement of certain energy transactions related to natural gas agreements, renewable agreements and wholesale power transactions for BEPC and DGC. This position performs detailed analysis of the calculation of the energy related transaction settlement amounts and in determining and reconciling any discrepancies. This position requires a detailed oriented person that can problem solve energy discrepancies and work collaboratively with internal departments including providing feedback and support to the marketing, risk management and accounting areas.

Settlements Analyst III - This position is within the Financial Services Department located in Bismarck ND. This position plays an important role in ensuring Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) is receiving optimal value for its resources. This position is responsible for taking the lead role in the Independent System Operator (ISO) power market settlement functions including having an understanding of the power markets in order to review and validate the settlement of the ISO wholesale power transactions. This position works with complex settlement calculations and Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) software in the validation of the ISO wholesale power transactions and in identifying and resolving discrepancies. This position works collaboratively with internal departments including providing feedback and support to the marketing, risk management and accounting areas. Attention to detail, problem solving skills and a willingness to learn and promote process efficiencies are essential for this position

Qualifications: Settlements Analyst I: To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have a general understanding of business practices and procedures, which is acquired through the completion of a four-year degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or related field, and two years of related experience in business, accounting, finance, economics, mathematics, billing, or settlements; or a two-year degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Economics, Mathematics or related field, and four years of related experience in business, accounting, finance, economics, mathematics, billing, or settlements. The ability to demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills is required. The incumbent must also be proficient with personal computers and Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Settlements Analyst II: To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have a general understanding of business practices and procedures, which is acquired through the completion of a four-year degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or related field, and four years of related experience in business, accounting, finance, economics, mathematics, billing, or settlement; or a two-year degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or related field, and six years of related experience in business, accounting, finance, economics, mathematics, billing, or settlements. The ability to demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills is required. The incumbent must also be proficient with personal computers and Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Settlements Analyst III - To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have a thorough understanding of the ISO business practices and procedures along with knowledge of ETRM software. This can be acquired through the completion of a four-year degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or related field, and six years of related experience in business, accounting, finance, economics, mathematics, billing, or settlements. The ability to demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills is required. The incumbent must also be proficient with personal computers and Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands: This position requires frequent sitting and standing/walking; and occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, use of keyboard/computer, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination. This position requires good hearing and vision, and the ability to speak. It also requires the ability to develop plans, procedures and goals; present information to others; and work under stress to complete projects within deadlines.
